Eternal Composition
About the project
A generative musical composition in which the digits of pi determine chords, tones and durations in an endless flow.
Eternal Composition is a musical work built on the meeting of strict order and infinite flow. Its material is not a theme, motif or story in the usual sense, but a principle: the decimal expansion of pi is transformed into sound according to predetermined rules.
The first digit in each block of seven determines the chord for the next three tones; the remaining digits determine their pitches and durations. The process then moves on to the next seven digits.
